Every year the Friends work diligently with the staff at McCormick’s Creek State Park to host annual events that people have come to know and love. The Friends contribute by providing volunteers, financial assistance, and planning. Click on the events to the right to learn more.
First Day Hike
Pictured here are a group of hikers excited to get outside on a sunny winter day. There is always a great turn-out for the First Day Hike on January 1st.
There are many ways for a Friend to get involved with this event. You can hike, participate in the photography contest, or volunteer to help with providing post hike snacks or visitor information.
Spring 5K and Fall Trail 10k/5k
The Friends host two running/walking races each year:
-Spring 5k Road Race
-Fall 5k/10k Run to the Creek trail run
These races are very popular and generate the majority of the Friends funding for the year.
Volunteers are always needed to help with both races!

Holiday Quilts at the Creek
Be sure to add Saturday December 14, 2024 to your holiday happenings calendar. This year, the Friends of McCormick’s Creek is hosting a quilt show at the Canyon Inn from 8:30 a.m. – 6:30 p.m. Quilters from across the state are invited to create a quilt and show it at the Canyon Inn that day. Not a quilter? That’s OK, we invite you to come view the quilts and vote for People’s Choice! For $5.00 you can purchase 6 voting tickets and then place your votes on your favorite quilts. Winners will receive either an annual state park pass, a gift certificate to Unraveled Quilt shop, or a gift certificate to the Canyon Inn.
